After 15 years of service, my Liftmaster garage door opener finally failed. It started out only lifting the door about half way, then the gear stripped out. I didnt feel like dropping $$$ on a new opener, so I found this kit online. If you are up for the task, this kit does the job well. The instructions are pretty good although not perfect. The only difficult part is removing the roller pins on the main drive shaft and the collar on the worm gear. Make sure you have a punch to remove the pin although I used a nail effectively. If youre not mechanically inclined or dont have the tools, you may get frustrated. After installation, youll need to tinker with the setting on the door to get it to open and close properly. Total repair time was about 1.5 hrs.

By using this kit to replace the gear in my garage door opener, I was able to get my garage door working without having to call a repair man. The kit comes with instructions that step you through the process of disassembling the opener and installing the new parts. The only negative is that I couldnt just buy the single part I needed. However, compared to the cost of having someone come and fix my opener, this saved me a ton of money. Also, be aware that you will need to buy a punch in order to remove and install the new gears. Again, however, the cost is negligible compared to the alternative.

The kit did what I bought it for. Now, a lot of the reviews mention some assembly required, they are quite right. I used a hole punch, Phillips screw driver, pliers, hammer, two by four, and my concrete basement floor. Using a combination of these (wood and floor for a ghetto anvil)I managed to get the pins removed and replaced. To sum it up, youll need some mechanical aptitude and a little ingenuity but you can get it done in under three hours.
